Versions of Q++ Studio |
|
Q++ is based on a clear, object-oriented, separation of the elements that make up a diary. This allows Q++ to be installed in 3 different versions, each tailored to the specific needs of subsets of the flow chart below.
Full Version |
This version allows you to create scripts and use these to generate diaries, as well as manage data. This version requires a license for QuarkXPress and a powerful configuration (this is the version to which we will be referring unless specified otherwise). |
Paginator |
This is a stand-alone version of Q++ used by people in imposition to create and preview scripts, using sample generic templates (2d/2p, 1w/2p, ...) to determine which dates will fall on which pages and signatures and more generally as a pre-imposition information tool. This version does not generate diary files and therefore does not require a license for QuarkXPress. Users of the Paginator version cannot edit or view Data. The hardware configuration can also be slightly reduced, in particular the CPU, although it is imperative that at least 64Mb of RAM be available. |
Data Contributor |
This is a networked version of Q++ designed to let users of the editorial department view and modify shared data such as translations, holidays and moon phases. This version does not include any script functionality, does not generate diary files and therefore does not require a license for QuarkXPress. The hardware configuration can also be slightly reduced, in particular the CPU, although it is imperative that at least 128Mb of RAM be available. |
Any user of the full version can accomplish what users of the paginator and data contributor versions do. The reasons why users for whom it makes sense should use either the paginator or data contributor versions, are :
| • | The user interface is stripped of non-pertinent menu options and buttons. This makes learning faster, and the interface les confusing, and prevents non-qualified users from introducing erroneous information into the shared database. |
| • | The 2 reduced versions each use only a subset of the Q++ database, which makes them faster to launch and use, even on less powerful machines. |
Contact us for more information on installing either of these reduced versions.
